Niobium oxide ( Nb2O5 ) is an interesting active material for technologies ranging from catalysis and sensors to energy storage and electrochromic devices owing to its unique optical, electronic, and electrochemical properties. These properties vary between different phases and morphologies in the Nb2O5 system, but systematic studies that correlate properties to phase and morphology are limited …

2/1/2009  · Electrochromism has been documented for different metal oxides where the corresponding metals belong to the transition series. Cathodic colouration can be encountered in oxides of Ti, Nb, Mo, Ta and W, with tungsten oxide being the most extensively studied , , . Of all these, niobium oxide ( Nb 2 O 5 ) thin films have been studied in this paper.

The research results on the electrochromic properties reveal that the Nb2O5 film prepared with an ethanol volume percentage of 30% presents the largest optical modulation of 69.0% at the …

The electrochromic properties of the films were investigated using in situ spectroelectrochemical method. They exhibit a gray coloration under Li + insertion with a reversible variation of the transmittance in the visible and near infrared range between 20% and 80%. Keywords: electrochromism , Nb 2 O 5 , sol-gel . 1. Introduction, 12/4/1990  · Read ChemInform Abstract: The Electrochromic Process at Nb2O5 Electrodes Prepared by Thermal Oxidation of Niobium.

3/30/2001  · The electrochromic properties of Nb 2 O 5 films were first reported by Reichman and Bard in 1980 and since then niobium pentoxide has been extensively studied. The usual methods of preparing Nb 2 O 5 films include: magnetron sputtering [9] , [10] , [11] , thermal oxidation [12] and several sol-gel routes [11] , [13] , [14] , [15] .

The films had their electrochromic properties investigated by cyclic voltammetry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry in situ, in acetonitrile solution containing LiClO4 0.1 M as supporting electrolyte . During the reduction, a blue coloration is formed in the Nb2O5 electrode.

4/1/2017  · Aiming to improve electrochromic properties of vanadium pentoxide (V 2 O 5) new niobium-doped vanadium pentoxide (V 2 O 5: Nb 2 O 5 ) thin films were obtained by combining sol–gel method with dip-coating technique. The sols were synthesized by reacting vanadium (V) oxytripropoxide and niobium ethoxide (V) with 2, 5, and 10 mol% of Nb sol concentrations as precursors.

Thin films of mixed oxides of Nb2O5 -TiO2 with molar ratio Nb/Ti = 3, have been prepared by sol-gel sonocatalytic method. The precursor sols consist of a mixture of niobium salt NbCl5, titanium alkoxide Ti(OPr i )4, isopropanol and acetic acid. After addition of all components the mixture was sonicated. The films were deposited by dip-coating technique on ITO-Asahi Glass and then submitted to a …

There is a continuous quest for developing electrochromic (EC) transition metal oxides (TMOs) with increased coloration efficiency. As emerging TMOs, Nb2O5 films, even those of ordered anodized nanochannels, have failed to produce the required EC performance for practical applications. This is attributed to limitations presented by its relatively wide bandgap and low capacity for accommodating …
